It's 9:50 and I gave myself until 10.

So 10 is when I'm going to close up shop and head to bed, but **for once** I have my emails caught up on and I even indulged and did some facebook surfing.

With these few more minutes, I mindlessly typed in my blog address to give it a glance. How pathetic that I've not given it two thoughts in the past several months! I think my poor audience has given up on me. I'm still gonna enter randomly from time to time, though. It has been too dear of a therapy for me to put it to rest entirely...

Wanted to report in that last weekend I found myself flying to Dallas, TX for my 1st grade friend, Rachel Jacob's, father's funeral. Rachel and I began our friendship at age 6. She is one of the most head-strong and driven people I know. We like each other because we are so opposite from one another in so many ways and yet connect on this deep, reflective level.

Anyway, when I learned Rachel's father had passed away (ironically, of pancreatic cancer, which is how I lost Dad too), all of these memories of my childhood flashed before me... we spent a TON of time at each other's houses for extended periods in our elementary years. And I've never had a friend quite as loyal as she.

I treasured my time in TX for those few days. I was Rachel's little puppy dog, following her around and doing my best to offer some love during a tough time. Funerals are just so incredible. I know this sounds weird - especially with some rather difficult ones in my personal experience to weather - but I love funerals. It brings out the absolute best in people. For a glimpse of time, you catch a feeling of the sacredness of life and of relationship with others. When folks are clinging on to each other a second longer than normal and are temporarily forgetting every other mindless (but necessary) detail of life in order to bring the BIG STUFF of life to the forefront, it's a wonderful thing. I want it to last longer than an hour. But then we go on ticking and everyone around us goes on ticking... until someone else stops ticking and we remember again.

Thanks, Rachel, for being my friend for 26 years. Thanks, Mitchell Jacobs, for all those drives back and forth to and fro our homes! You will be missed.

Oops! It's 10:04. I'm really living on the edge tonight.

Kick Me

Do you remember the time when someone placed a sign on your back that says 'Kick Me?" I do. But that was a very long time ago in high school. I was not aware of it, when one of my so-called friends then, kicked me from behind. He was not a friend the moment he did that. He could have just taken it off, and say to me, "Watch your back when people act odd!" Well...that's in the past as we learn from negative experiences.

Today, is something of that past that I wanted to play with. Tessa my builder and pet made  a pose ball that allows for a victim and assaulter to pose for. She made it a few weeks back, but I just had the opportunity to take a few pictures to show it today. The first victim was Del, who happens to be the same person we killed a couple of weeks ago. When he was harassing my partner Kitten, I killed him. And today Kitten got the chance to mess with him, by kicking him. He could have declined, but again he seems to like the attention as the center of our jokes and fun at his expense.

So he posed at the victim, and Kitten gladly posed to assault him in the pose presented. It turned out very funny, and Azula was on hand to take part of us having a good laugh. Kitten took a flying leap in the air and landing a hard kick on Del's back. But unfortunately, by the time I realized  I needed the picture, Kitten had removed herself from the action pose, and left Del showing that he got shoved from behind. Still it was funny the moment it happened. Del soon left, after my attempts to have him pose again.

Later, Emile IMed me, asking to know what we were doing. I said, "Kicking Del around, well actually his posing to be kicked." She wanted me to teleport her over. I did a few minutes later after Del had already left. I needed a picture of the action earlier, and I got Emile to pose for me. She has a good sense of humor on her part, I got to kick her in this pose. Thank you Emile for being a good sport about this.

Getting "kicked" around by friends is fine, as long as their is consent given from the intended victim. If you ever watched "Jack Ass" then you know what I mean.

Still Playing: Alex Kidd In Miracle World

So, yes I've been a bit slow on the updates on this one. Mostly because I've spent the last week sick in bed playing the rapturous (get it?) Bioshock 2. But I have made progress in Alex Kidd as well.

This game is a strange brew. It was made in response to Nintendo's wildly successful Super Mario Bros, but ultimately gained much less popularity than the seminal Italian plumber side-scroller. While Alex Kidd is the same kind of game as Mario Bros, the execution of the two couldn't be different. Sega 'went for it' in trying to 1Up (boom) the Mushroom Kingdom, and they did it by implementing a ton of fresh ideas.

The "Pedicopter"
Shops peppered through various levels allow you to buy items and upgrades, you can use storable upgrades when needed, fly a helicopter, bust out a motorcycle, ride in style in a speed boat, and ponder over mysterious switches and puzzles. All of these things were used in other games like crazy, but Alex Kidd was a pioneer in this realm.

At the same time, however, the majority of the boss battles are mindlessly uncreative - you play Rock, Paper, Scissors. That's it. Now, Mario Bros can be faulted by saying they just recycled Bowser eight times, but at least the skills you gained while getting there were put to the test. It takes an incredible amount of dexterity and practice to get through some of Miracle World's later levels, only to put those skills through a rigorous game of Rock, Paper Scissors.

DARN it!
All in all though, I am enjoying it. I'm starting to breeze through the first five levels, but Level 6 is where it really starts to pick up in difficulty. It may take me a while - wish me luck!
